Today I Don't Feel So Great.

I don't know if I have the flu or a REALLY bad cold, but it hit me with a vengeance yesterday morning, let up this morning and just got worse again as the day progressed.  I've pretty much been in bed or on the sofa for the past two days.  This stuff is the pits.

But, what has been making me feel emotionally down is that this illness is drying me up.  Ellis may have to wean even though neither of us are ready.  Granted, she will be a year at the end of this month.  And she only nurses about 3 times a day max anyway.  But she doesn't like any of the milk substitutes I gave the other two when they weaned (almond, rice, oatmeal and coconut, we don't do soy). She definitely has an issue with cow dairy products. I tested them on her. The reaction was swift, red, ouchy, and itchy (all over her poor bum). I had Tony pick up some goat's milk tonight to try tomorrow. I'm feeling rather depressed about the whole thing. How am I going to get enough protein, calories, and calcium down her?  She likes water, but water has no calories. She doesn't even care for juice much. Just mommy milk and water.  She also won't eat vegetables unless they are in soup. She's the pickiest eater I've ever had.  She won't even eat bread!  I'm going to have Tony pick up a calcium supplement tomorrow, so I don't have to worry about that one anymore.

**sigh**

Any suggestions or words of wisdom would most appreciated right now.

(as you can see, she will eat cookies.)

From my experience, a few days won't dry you up. Let her nurse as often as she wants, and the milk will be there in a few days. (My almost-two-year-old just decided last week that is a MILK boy again during the day time. And yes, it's come back for him! He was only nursing at night.) Just don't stress, Mama :)

What a cutie!

I'm so sorry. I wish I could offer some advice. Ever since little Bub slept through the night, I've had less milk. Enough for him to keep nursing, just less.

Hope it works out! I was on goat milk as a baby up until I was in about fourth grade. I liked it at the time. Hopefully she will too.

Hope you feel better soon! How about toddler formula? Would Elle drink it?

I hope the goats milk works for you.

If she isn't allergic to almond milk or rice... I wonder if she would drink it with a little sweetner in it like stevia or something? Maybe some carob too...

Sorry you feel sick. Maybe you can try drinking more water and try nursing again. Make sure you are getting all your nutrients too.

Oh Jamie nasty stuff is going around! Isaak and I had strep after Thanksgiving. Mica, Isaak and I had a bad cold at Christmas. Mica got an ear infection from that. Mica got the stomach flu after New Years. Now I can't breathe.

I had bronchitis when one of my boys was in the hospital. I dried up a lot, but got my supply back. DRINK a lot of water. Malt Powder helps build up the supply, Fenugreek does as well and there is Mother's Milk Tea. Just keep her nursing even though you may feel dried up.

Try giving her YoBaby Yogurt for a protein.

Get better soon! HUGS!

I'm so sorry you are sick! We always used goat milk with Sky (starting when he was around a year) because cow's milk didn't do to well with him. He liked it just fine! Hope you feel better soon!
