Today I Coughed.

Well.

We should get the test results back tomorrow, but I'm fairly sure, based on our symptoms, that the rest of us have pertussis.  To say that I'm out of my mind worried about Elle is an understatement.

Supposedly the first two weeks are mild and the 3rd and 4th are when things get scary.  I don't need scary right now.  Nor ever.  But here we go.  I pray God gives me strength.

If you don't know much about pertussis/whooping cough - here's a bit I took from this article

"Some kids with whooping cough need to be treated in a hospital. Infants and younger children are more likely to be hospitalized because they're at greater risk for complications such as pneumonia, which occurs in about 1 in 5 children under the age of 1 year who have pertussis. Up to 75% of infants younger than 6 months old with whooping cough will receive hospital treatment. In infants younger than 6 months of age, whooping cough can even be life threatening."

So - if you don't hear from me much over the next month, you now know why.

I pray the baby stays well and you get over it fast. You are probably exausted not only from taking care of the kids but from coughing. Get well soon!!

My Hubs ended up with a coughing cold and gave it to me. Lucky for me I was already taking grapefruit seed extract which is a natural antibiotic and I didn't get it as bad. Not as bad was bad enough. It just wears you out coughing.

Oh boy! Did Britt and Ash get vaccinations for it? When Isaak got meningitis he had only gotten the first shot. I know with the chicken pox vaccine kids can still get it, it's just more of a mild case. I'm just wondering if kids can still get whopping cough if they were vaccinated or not?

I'm feeling for your family! I know I can't help. They do make personal humidifiers. You can even buy them with Vics discs in them. I loved mine to break up my cough when I had bronchitis and a asthma outbreak. You can get them at any pharmacy. They are less prone to have bacteria build up compared to the big ones and easier to clean.

Scary times! I'm betting they will get put on a nebulizer. Mica had that when he got bronchitis (a different time then I). The hardest thing is to keep them still for the time they need to.

Thinking of you!

I'll pray for your family. Hope you all get well soon. I really hate coughing and that's the normal one, can't imagine how much I'll hate the whooping cough.
