Today I Had a Weight Lifted Off of My Shoulders.

About two months ago I received a jury summons in the mail.  Ack!  I have nothing against serving as a juror but now is just not a good time of my life for me to be doing that.  In the trenches with the toddlers right now, ya know?  So I sent in my request for dismissal and waited.

And waited.

And waited.

All the while getting more and more nervous.  Would they really deny my request and expect me to show up?  Honestly?  And it's against the law to not be there without a dismissal.  I tried to get online and see if I could figure anything out that way but they didn't give me a stupid 10 digit juror badge number so I couldn't do anything online.  They had no email addresses and the only number I could find (initially) was an info hotline and pushing any number would give me more pointless facts but no live person to talk to.  I did, finally, get a message machine and left my name and number, but they didn't call back.

Until today (4 days before I was to beginning my service).  The lady was nice and couldn't find me in the system, but then realized she was putting my last name in the first name and my first name in the last for searching.  **snicker**  After a bit of a hassle and more elevator music, she informed me I had been excused.

Hallelujah!!!!  I'm trying not to be stressy, but I've got a lot on my plate right now (and the girls appear to have colds, though I suspect Britt is getting a molar).  So - this was just one more thing to be anxious about.  And I just don't need any of that right now, lemme tell ya!

Last time I was summoned for jury duty was over 10 years ago and they wanted me right in the middle of finals, so of course I got dismissed then as well.

Have you ever served as a juror?  And for those of you who are not in the US, do they have something similar in your country?

I have never served on a Jury. I told my Hubs that I would love to do it and have it be sequestered so they will put me up in a motel and wait on me hand and foot. What would probably happen is they would pick some flea bag motel and feed me food that I can't eat.

I despise getting summoned for jury duty. I always try to weasel out of it. Since I've never had to serve, I'm getting pretty good at it.

There was one time I got summoned and could NOT go because I HAD to work. My boss wouldn't let me take time off. (lawful? dunno. who cares.) My boss even called the guy personally to tell him he couldn't work without his assistant and that I would not be able in any way to serve. The guy, in Nazi fashion, still wouldn't relent. I had to report.

I still got excused the day before. Ha. Take that.

Good for you! Now is not the time for that.

I haven't gotten papers to serve. I don't want to. Not because of the duty its self. I just don't like downtown parking and getting pulled out of work. Lame of me, I know.

My Dad got papers to serve right when his Dad passed away. That was crazy getting out of that quickly.

I have been called once, but was excused because the boys were little and I had no one to watch them as we had moved to TX and I knew not one soul. If I was called now I would completely be okay with it.

No, no jury duty here. Since 1995, jury trials were abolished in Malaysia. Glad to hear that your request was granted.

This is one of those things where I'm almost afraid to talk about it for fear of jinxing myself, but I've been called twice but my group number wasn't needed. *knocking on wood*

I got called up for jury duty years ago and requested a dismisal. I never heard anything back, never turned up and to date haven't been arrested for not doing so. Lol. x

I got summoned. I was SO surprised, and got excited about the possibility, but I am NOT a citizen. I can not serve as a jury even if I wanted to.
