Today I'm Following Up On Yesterday's Post.

My opinion on Gianna Jesson's message.

First off.  I'm a mommy.  My life revolves around the protection and care of little people.  I make decisions all day, every day that have lasting consequences on their lives.  Every choice every person makes creates ripples in the pond of life.  I realize that children can't vote, they can't choose government leaders, they can't fight for their rights, they can't defend themselves well (if at all) from those that might wish to harm them, they can't even explain their feelings and wants to me very well!  So - it's up to me and Tony and my parents and my siblings and my in-laws and my friends and YOU to fight for the rights of babies and children.

I was absolutely stunned when Gianna said, "If abortion is merely about women's rights, well then, where were mine?"    **silence**  Yeah!  She's a woman too!  How come no one was there to stand up for her?  How come no one is there to stand up for so many of, what could be, the future women (and men) of our world?

If women can only have their rights by taking away someone else’s then something is very, tragically wrong with this picture. If we, as women, don’t stand up for the rights of those who can’t stand up for their own – who will?

So - What defines life?  A beating heart?  Emerging alive from a womb?  Having, at least initially, a parent who wants you to live?

P.S.  Feel free to share thoughts in contrary to this post.  But please have the guts to let me know who you are.  Anonymous posts will be rejected.

I was also completely amazed by this girl's message. Having already been very, VERY opposed to abortion, hearing her speak made me wish that every selfish, irresponsible person out there who thought they had a right to terminate the life of another human being just because they weren't born yet could see this speech.
Amen, Gianna. I'm God's girl too. That makes us sisters.

I have very mixed feelings about abortion. I would never get one! I do however have two family members that carry trisomy 18. It's a rare genetic disorder. My sister got pregnant when she was 14! We didn't know she was pregnant until she was 5 months pregnant. She carried a trisomy baby. Trisomy babies rarely make it. The oldest one lived until they were 5 years old. She ended up carrying it to term. I went home one weekend from college to watch her give birth to a baby that was barely breathing when he was born; 6 hours later I watched her baby die. He was whimpering a painful whimper most of the time he was alive. He was born without a diaphragm. I went to a funeral, and went back to school. It was the worst thing I've ever gone through! Would I hate her if she chose to have an abortion? I have to say no. She never would do that. If that is what she were to choose to do, I can't say that I'd judge her.

I do not think people should not have abortions as a form of birth control! With rare genetic disorders maybe there is a more humane thing to do. We put pets to sleep to put them out of misery, but we won't do that for humans. I saw my nephew in misery. The whole family was in misery watching him die.

I think someone would have to go through a situation like what I did to understand how horrible it is. Hearing and seeing a tiny being in pain is awful. An abortion is horrible too.

Do you see how I'm torn?
