Today I Think I Said the Word "Potty" at Least a Million Times.

{I've decided to add a warning here.  If you are disgusted by the topic of bodily functions and all that goes with them, please skip this post.  I do discuss, in great detail, those things that go along with "potty."}

I've been thinking about doing Potty Training Round 2 with Ash for the past couple of weeks. She's been wanting to, randomly, sit on her potty (though never "going"). So - I figure that's a step in the right direction. Plus, I've been getting feedback from friends who've just successfully trained their toddlers. I think the decision to go for it today was brought on by two very recent occurrences.

1. Last night when we were just hanging out in the house, Britt yelped, "poop!" And then half squatted to poop in her diaper. I repeated to Tony what she said, so he rushed over to her and said, "Poop? Well, then poop in the potty!" So Britt ran over to the little, red potty and Tony whipped her diaper off. She had already pooped but the log was hanging off her butt, so it fell into the potty (for the 2 seconds she sat there). Needless to say, Tony cheered and clapped and made big deal out of it. And she got all excited about sitting on the potty (though she did seem a little grossed out and bewildered about what was in the potty when her daddy showed it to her). She also really loved the subsequent lollipop she received (though I'm not sure she got the correlation). So, I thought "maybe I'll train both of them."

2. I walked into the girls' room this morning to get them out of bed and was greeted by the two round butt cheeks belonging to Ash. She had taken off her diaper and thrown it on the floor. It was dry. I asked her if she wanted a new diaper or if she'd like to sit on her potty. She chose the potty. **thumbs up** Then she peed in her potty. **two major, happy thumbs up!!**

So - I was, naturally, jazzed and decided today was going to be the day.

Ash peed in her potty again in the afternoon and had totally dry underwear. I had decided this was definitely going to be worth the hassle. I have kept Britt in a diaper but let her take it off to sit on her potty at the same time as Ash. I'm not really pushing it with Britt because she hasn't figured out how to take her pants off yet. But it's all laying the ground work for later, right?

Fast forward to tonight. If I was a drinking woman, I'd be sloshed by now. It was a rough day in the trenches, let me tell ya! Geez Louise! See, I'm supposed to have them sit on their pottys every 15-20 minutes. Which leaves me about.... NO time at all to do anything else. Wanna hear the rest of the story and what got me to this ripping-my-hair-out, teary-eyed, bonked-over-the-head-expression, nervous-twitch-in-my-neck point?

Well.................I'll make it short.

Ok. It was about 4pm when everything went spiraling downhill. Ash came to me and said, "I pooped." I of course was super bummed and let her know. "We don't poop in our underwear. We poop in the potty.  Yadda Yadda." Pretty sure all she heard was, "Blah blah poop blah blah. Blah poop blah blah blah." Admittedly, it did sound pretty funny to hear her say sadly, "I pooped on Tinker Bell!" I chucked those panties. Yuck. Not washing anything the poop doesn't roll out of neatly!

Then she peed all over the boots in the shoe closet in my mom's house.

Then she peed all over her trike.

Then she didn't want to sit on her potty anymore.

**sigh**

Then we all melted down. The End.

And despite the possibility of it embarrassing my poor children when they're older, I'm posting this:

Pot Sitters

I'm calling it sweet revenge for now.

P.S. I made fajitas with lots of yummy green pepper and now I have heartburn. **groan**

Oh dear, I don't know whether to laugh or cry when I read this post. I guess Ash and Britt must be pretty tired of hearing the words poop and potty by now.

It would be nice to have them trained before the baby comes. I busted my butt to have Mica trained. He was fairly easy. I trained him on accident. I just kept sitting him on the toilet to feel comfortable; not to train. He liked it. Not usual. I trained both of mine on the big toilet with a padded seat. It's nice with boys because they start standing to pee.

My sister gave me a great tip about travel. An ice cream bucket is perfect for the padded seat to fit on. If needed, you have a lid. I never would have thought about that!

Potty training is hard. Mica was an exception. Isaak was not like his brother at all. Even to this day he has accidents. He's well past age 3. I also love potty training because it encourages them to be independent. Plus less diapers to change.

I loved, "I pooped on Tinker Bell!"

I'm sorry it ended up being a rough day! I blew up at Andrew the first time he pooped in his underwear. He hasn't done it since. I felt soooo bad, though. Potty training is challenging, but so worth it! Take your time.

I got super inspired by this blog post when I decided to potty train Andrew: http://www.thecoterieblog.com/2011/07/potty-training-young-children.html

Good Luck, Jamie!

We're moving in that direction, too, and I am scared out of my wits. Thanks for your candor. The times we have used panties, we've had similar experiences. My mom (who had both my bro and I trained by 18 mos) always thought kids should be trained early, but she's been super-supportive of my waiting. She reminds me that she hasn't met a kindergartner yet who's not potty-trained--in other words, it'll happen at some point. Though kindergarten is far off, it's a reassuring thought.

Good luck, and hang in there! And just think about what a pro you'll be by the time you're potty-training baby #3!

P.S. You're hilarious.

LOL, potty stories are so funny, and fustrating. Your doing the best job you can do. I let Adonis go around the house with only underwear on for 2 whole weeks till he got the point. But when he would pee in his underwear or on something in the house I would put him in his room for a little bit for punishment which made him very angry so he got the hang of the potty.
In a couple of months I'll be doing it again with Apollo.

ha ha ha! Sorry, I don't mean to laugh at your misfortune. I hope it gets better.

Oh how I wish that road was easy, but the spills, stains, dribbles, and plops along the way make it anything but. Yikes!
